For this latest body of work, renowned contemporary artist Kurt Jackson returned to the subject of his formative years; Cape Cornwall. 

Painting the headland from all possible sides and aspects, he aimed to capture and celebrate this familiar St Just landmark through the seasonal, meteorological, diurnal and tidal changes of the year. 

To try and see this one small Cornish promontory with fresh eyes.

Kurt Jackson’s practice of working outside directly with nature creates an immediate contact with his subject, allowing him to respond in spontaneous, dynamic, innovative and exciting ways. 

His boathouse studio on Priest Cove placed at the waters’ edge gives him a unique immersion into the world of the Cape, allowing him to collaborate with the life of the shore, cliff, coast path and slipway.

Cape Cornwall has been the subject of paintings, etchings and songs over the years, and photographic images can be found dating back to the infancy of the medium. This peaceful cove once rang with the sound of industry but is once again a haven for flora and fauna.

Through Jackson’s eyes, this one small stretch of coastline comes to represent the visual and environmental dynamics of the island we call home.
