St Just Care and Repair Cafe. Sunday 2nd June 2019.

The Jackson Foundation is proud to have hosted the first session of the St Just Care and Repair Café. The Repair Café was a huge success, gallery manager Fynn even managed to get his guitar mended!

St Just Care and Repair Café is a monthly workshop popping up in various locations in the town on the first Sunday of each month.

It offers the public collaborative repairs on broken goods that would otherwise end up in landfill. The ethos of the Café is to encourage maintenance, re-use and re-purposing rather than disposal and replacement.

The Café will is reliant on Volunteer ‘Fixers’; people who can mend broken items and make them usable again. They are looking to mend bikes, fabric/woollen objects, electrical items, ceramics, surf/skateboards, small appliances, woodwork etc. They even have someone to give gardening tips!

“We all have to change our attitude to producing, using and disposing of ‘stuff’. We want our cafe to be accessible for all, so any repairs will be done for free with a welcome but not compulsory donation. It is not for profit and should have the effect of boosting ecological and ethical thinking within our community.” – Daisy Gibbs, co-founder of the scheme.

If you have an item that you would like to be repaired or have any questions please contact Daisy using this link.
